Recent paper on trends in global shark attacks, with collaborators Steve Midway (LSU) and George Burgess (Univ. of Florida), is picked up by several media outlets. In addition to local news outlets, our research was highlighted by CNN, Fox News, and US News and World Reports. There is a nice story by the Star-Advertiser, a Honolulu-based daily newspaper.

Ben was awarded the Best Student Presentation Award at the Virginia/West Virginia state chapter meeting of the American Fisheries Society for his work examining the relative roles of biotic interactions and environmental conditions in structuring stream fish communities. Ben also was awarded the Cooper Award at the Pennsylvania Chapter AFS meeting.
Ben Kline awarded a College of Agricultural Sciences Undergraduate Research Award for Spring 201912/18/2018 Congratulations, Ben! Ben will be modeling stream fish communities using hierarchical joint species distribution models. One of his overarching goals is to quantify the importance of biological vs abiotic drivers in structuring stream fish assemblages.
The National Science Foundation News highlighted our Penn State News story about introgression between hatchery and wild brook trout. Great job Shannon White for getting the message out about her important research.
Shannon White's research on introgression between hatchery and wild brook trout in the Loyalsock Creek Watershed has been highlighted in Penn State News (link to news article). For the full journal article, see our paper in Evolutionary Applications here.
The 148th Annual Meeting of the American Fisheries Society, held in Atlantic City, NJ, was a success. It was great to see old colleagues and meet new people doing great science. The Wagner Lab presented two oral presentations and two posters. See you next year in Reno, NV.
This week our research on the ecology and conservation of eastern brook trout was highlighted as part of an upcoming film - Expedition Chesapeake, A Journey of Discovery. Expedition Chesapeake examines the linkages between the millions of people that live in the watershed and the plants, fish, and wildlife that inhabit the amazing and diverse habitats of this national treasure. This film, hosted by Jeff Corwin, is set to hit the giant-screen in 2019. Thanks to Greg, Tom, and the entire film crew for a memorable day on the water. Congratulations, Ben! Ben was awarded the Eva B. and G. Weidman Groff Memorial Scholarship from the College of Agricultural Sciences and the Mark Petty Bush Memorial Scholarship in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management. Great job Ben and keep up the outstanding work.
The Wagner Lab helped out with the Wildlife Leadership Academy's Brookies Camp held along Fishing Creek near Lamar, PA. Brookies Camp is a week long brook trout centered camp where high school students learn all about brook trout from conservation and natural history to ecology. Wagner lab members served as camp instructors on fish internal and external anatomy, stream health, and macroinvertebrate collection and identification.
